I recently acquired the coin in the images below. The obverse looks exactly like the one pictured as KM# 54 in the 1801-1900 SToWC under BENGAL PRESIDENCY (immediately following INDIA-BRITISH). It is copper and around 6.2 grams. The reverse looks very similar to the picture in the catalog for that coin, but there may be a couple of differences. I don't see any clusters of little dots to either side of the Hindi value on the bottom. The character that looks like an X sinks far lower on this coin than it appears in the catalog. Also, a few of the things I can make out in upper left portion of the coin look like they might be a little different than what is pictured in the catalog. Do any of you know of any coins similar to KM# 54 that it might be?
Without all those florettes of dots it looks more like KM# 56. You should take exact measurements of you coin, the weight and diameter, as that may help you with attribution. And remember, those coins quite often were struck a bit off flan, this way or that.
Thanks, svslav. It's totally KM# 56. You would think that if I would do the work necessary to get that close I would at least look at the next page carefully, right...? Thanks for enabling my laziness. ;-)
