Just to clarify, for pennies: is it 1982 and below is copper or is it 1981 and below? I'm always confused by this.

Maybe try reading some books on coins to help.

jizer1, 1982 has a mix of copper pennies and also zinc pennies. that was the year they changed the compostition of the penny.

if the 1982 penny weighs 3.11 grams, then its copper, if it weighs below 3 grams, its zinc

monks, try to get the pennies that are in bags. you'll probably get a lot more unsearched ones

hey monk, yea bank bags. they'll have those if they have a coin counter, most likely community banks. if they have a coin counter, they wont have to roll them and send the extras to the federal reserve. they just send out 50 dollar bags

What are your finds like? What are your find rates? If you're doing real well there's nothing wrong with that.

caincollectorjj. I average 20 % copper pennies out of a $50 bag. so out of 5,000 pennies, 1,000 of them are copper. out of those, around 10-30 are wheats and probably 1-2 indian head.
