US Quarters used to go thru. the early NSW $1 Poker(Slot) Machines,AFAIK this was fixed in the 1980's so a bit of a surprise that a 2012 coin sorting machine wouldn't pick it up.

Hi Basil Yes, that really surprised me as well. The only explanation that I have is that the sorting is done on size. Because the two are of identical diameter. So, you never know what you will get when you crack open an Armaguard (or Chubb) roll... Squire

I dont know what causes that sort of double rim on the $1 coins but I know it is pretty common on both $1 and $2 coins. The 1970 20c looks like PMD to me but the 1971 looks like something interesting. I would call it lamination or a planchet flaw.

Quote: Armaguard rolls are full of surprises I prefer sprises where I don't have 75% than I started with. Ask them if they have any rolls of State Quarters that are accidentally OZ$.

Quote: I cannot believe that this coin could be sorted in with our 1 dollar coins. Because it has less weight and is also thinner than our 1 dollar coins It all depends on the equipment. If it's designed to sort 19, 21 and 24mm coins, anything bigger than 21mm will go into the 24mm bin, and may or may not get counted. Anything thicker than half the largest coin will go thru, smaller than half as thick might go in as stacked pairs.

thanks for the explanation biggfredd. from a point of view of economy, including a quarter in a role of 1 dollar coins is a rip-off. On the other hand, the "Mississippi - the Magnolia State" commemorative US quarter dollar is a pretty coin. So from a point of numismatics I don't mind too much Squire

Noodled $200 of $1 and $100 of 50c this weekend. Fairly new at this, 2nd go. Found 2 $1 coins with double rim. One better than the other. Found 3 double bar 50c coins. Found a 1991 rams head, 2 cent of federation, 1x NSW and 1x Vic, 50c coins. Found 1x 2003 making a difference. Last ones low mintage rates.

Visited a Melbourne Post Office today. One of the tellers had two coins she had fished from her small change. One was a US quarter dollar ... ho hum. The other was a 1919 Australian sixpence - in REALLY nice condition . She mentioned that it was her lucky coin though. However, it shows that there is still some very nice money out there. An inspiration for my noodling . Squire

Not noodled as such but just received a $5 note in my change from purchasing dinner tonight - a 1997 AT serial test note. I didn't have any of that particular type previously so very pleased!
