Thanks Nancy. Have been checking my change for years to try and extract the nicest coins out of circulation of each denomination for each year that I could find plus looking for that elusive $1 mule etc (in vain so far!). Now I am having to look also for all the varieties that your good self and the other forumites have highlighted as well!

Armaguard surprises again. Last night I opened a 20 dollar roll of $1 coins. Since finding the "Mississippi Magnolia State US quarter in one of these rolls, I examine each roll carefully on opening it. I found a "chocolate" 1 dollar coin in the roll . Really striking. Any idea what may have caused this ?. Contamination of the planchet or PMD ?. I am hoping it is the former. Could give it a "scratch" test, but am loath to do so. So any suggestions are welcome. I have attached a pic. Squire

Yeah, agree with enworb. I went through $200 of $1 coins this afternoon/tonight and came across a couple with that browning and one almost completely covered both sides. Anything raised on the coin was clear of the browning due to wear.

Who knows what it is some of the crap on some coins though you need a good bacterial soap after noodling thats for sure.

Yeah looks like some soft drink, beer or other liquid has toned it,it does look quite good though, I've seen a few here & I know the coins come from the pub because they hae "BAR " written on them,i took some pics of one & if I can find them i'll post a couple.

Wilson, it looks PMD to me, moisture, staying on the ground or inside water for a long period of time, say six months or a year can easily turn a brass-aluminum coin to that colour.

I went on a big noodle today looking for a rotated 2010 50c but had no luck. I did however get some reasonably good haul of other coins. $800 of 50c netted me: 1x 2000 Millenium Incuse (#4) 18x 2001 federation state coins 1x 1985 4x 1991 Rams head 2x very nice 1973 (ive stopped keeping average ones) Tomorrow I'm hitting the 20c in the hope of a wavy. I dont like my chances but after steve found his mule last week I believe in miracles again.

Congratulations enworb 4 incuse millenium pieces. Great !. A 1985 50 cents is special too. I also had a glimmer of luck today. Got given a 1993 50 cent piece as the only coin in my change at the supermarket. Maybe lucky days are here again ... Good luck in finding the wavy. It's a great coin to have in your collection. I have noodled one wavy before and it is by far my favourite coin in my entire collection. At 20c it is also one of the cheapest.

Excellent haul there enworb - I'm feeling outcused Aside from a couple of fed states, I was happy to find a nice pointy A/large head 20c ... and also found 2 of the 1999 combined claw Cud with shadowed zero that larena posted up at one point. From observations, it would appear the "shadow" on the 0 developed first, with latter coins exhibiting the Cud on the claw - I haven't seen any claw Cuds without an advanced state shadow.

Not really a find but at my local bank all the tellers know I collect coins. One of the bank tellers received 6 uncirculated 1966 50 cent coins from a customer who was happy just to bank them. Thanks to my extreme good looks this bank teller saved these coins for me. Box of chocolates going out to her next bank trip. Nice way to end the week TCH
