A soak overnight in hot water with a few drops of detergent is a good start. Then a careful roll over with a cotton bud (or cotton tip, depending on where you live) while still wet. And pat dry between two pieces of paper towel. Any still not looking so good you can try similar process with acetone. Don't heat it -DANGEROUS to do that! And soak in a sealed container (glass jam jar is ideal) otherwise it will all evaporate.
A lot of earlier coins are turning up, in extra good condition, lately. Seems as if people a spending their hoards.

Can the type of soap used have any issues? I tried giving a guinea pig coin a light wash in warm water with hand soap, just dabbing fingers over the 'dirty' areas - not rubbing, and rinse, and it cleaned really well These scans don't show the toning the coins have, but an indication of what was in the bag. Most marks look to have been made whilst the coins went into the counting machine.....oh, and a bonus 1980 D Bar as well

As you say "All the better for us noodlers." I would not use normal soap; it is caustic and might dull the coins. Soft soap is not actually soap but some type of detergent like substance. so, probably reasonably safe. When washing a cavy (AKA guinea pig) be careful not get shampoo in his eyes! Sorry, couldn't resist that silly aside. Jeff

Sooooo jealous of that 20c Love to find one of these, darn it - great catch What state were these found in - the location that is, not meaning your state of excitement, of course! I did a stack of 50c coins earlier today - very few state coins seen - you got a few, I notice. They are also harder to get undamaged; the 50s really cop it out in the wild

Hi penny dreadful I found these in South Australia. I agree most of the Federation 50c coins that I find are quite damaged.

Well done Flippy! I have not found either a rotated $1 or 20c yet. I have not searched many $1 coins, but have looked through a fair number of 20c.

400 50 cent coins from a CBA coin machine bag yielded a few nice older coins, including a 1992 MSO (second one of these I've found....they are MSO? ) 1993 is very nice, scanner doesn't show it that well.... Only a couple of State coins - none worth keeping, and found my first 2000 RV coin in ages.... My wife bought this note home from shopping yesterday arvo Debating whether to put on ebay or not... Looks to be Fine, no problems that I can make out. Missus isn't too keen to 'lose' $50 in shopping money though
