Well done on the 1990 coin. It looks pretty good too. Check the Bradman well as it has a known error, filled R in Australia on the Obv.

Well some weeks just seem to be luckier than others...! I went through another $200 bag of 50c last night, and my run of CoF 50c coins continues. I also found a nice variety of good quality commemoratives and earlier years, plus two 1993 50c pieces. Still looking for the elusive 1985 though...

Well I finally found it - I finished searching $534 worth of 5c coins last night (that's 10,680 coins!) and noodled my first 1972 5c. What hit rates are other people getting for this coin? It seems they are getting harder to find as time goes by due to wear, loss, removal by collectors, and dilution with foreign coins and newly minted years?

baker_boy0, I would have thought you'd find more than 1 x 72 amongst $534 worth, but maybe they are drying up. Well done anyhow.

Thanks Pedro. Thanks Nancy. Persistence certainly did pay off, but I too was surprised it took so long to find! I am highly suspicious that there is another collector who frequents the same banks as I do. Anyway, I have another $66 of 5c to go through (I stopped partway through a $100 bag when I found the 1972 and did a little dance of joy and went off to look at 10c and 20c coins instead!). I don't fancy my chances of finding another 1972 in the remainder of the bag though, but you never know...! I did find some low mintage years within a $100 bag of 10c coins too. And for a total of only $400 of 10c coins ever searched, I have two complete circulated sets of 10c now. It seems 10c are easier to find, or are just not as collectable?!

Crazy days. I retract my earlier statement - Quote: I don't fancy my chances of finding another 1972 in the remainder of the bag - Just $40 later and I've found my second 1972 5c!

I have never acquired bulk 5 cents pieces to noodle - but in 6 years I have found 14 of the 1972 just by checking my change.

Thanks Pedro. Yes, I've had a lot of good finds recently. I seem to come across lots of the 2011 10c despite the low mintage. I actually put them back into the 'pond' now when I see them! I'm focussing my efforts on 20c and 50c now - looking for examples from 1985 for both.

In my golf club we all bet 20 cents with each other. Its a good way of catching up with each other and see who scored what. I didn't do well today but the last two collects I had were a 2001 Tasmania 20 cent, and a 2008 20 cents with the water gap. Took the edge off a lousy score. :)
