Okay folks, I ran into an 1837 Austrian Ducat that is silver and not gold. (Gold appears to be the norm for these)
Has anyone ever heard of one of these?

Yep, that's the one...and so far, the only one that I have seen listed like this. I have been looking for a coin that is from Transilvania and struck as such. This specimen, a commemorative, is as close as I can seem to get. It has been listed and re-listed a number of times...which makes me think it is way overpriced.

Thanks DVCollector, you haven't run across one have you?
All the ones I have found so far are from the Poland area and don't say anything related to "Transylvania," which doesn't work for me.

Silver strikes of this issue are essentially patterns. There are several other examples of "Proofs in silver" of gold coins, but the practise was more common in the 18th century than the 19th. Although rare, they generally are less expensive than the circulation issues. I own a 1717 Swabische-Hall 2 ducat in silver, and it cost me £300 or so in mint state.

Hi harrison2, interesting coins I like Austrian coins a lot :-) Transylvania is very interesting. Not just because of Dracula :-)))) It has been very important Hungary, Hapsburg monarchy and later Austro-Hungaria and today Romania. Some Transylvanian woywodas (dukes ) even become hungarian kings (John Zápolya http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Z%C3%A1polya ). And one of most important figures in South-eastern Europe in first mid 15th century John Hunyadi was voivode of Transylvania. He even had his coins struck with his name on one side and Serbian despot on other. According to hungarian numismatics these coins where struck for engagement of Despots granddaughter and Johns son Matija future king of Hungary. Someone here mention austrian coin pattern if you guys have time maybe you can look at this coin I posted some time ago. Someone said to me its pattern and rare but I want second or even third opinion. https://goccf.com/t/116306
