Jprine, my snakes are in no way protection or weapons. They are all gentle giants for the most part. I get bit occasionally but even the bigger of the snakes don't hurt much when they bite. Don't get me wrong, they can kill a person if handled irresponsibly but in no way do they try to do ANYTHING like that. Most dangerous time with a snake is feeding time as they are driven by impulse from the smell but if they do happen to tag me during feeding they generally let go immediately. Plus, every one of them are housed properly in appropriate cages that can hold them safely. I take them out all the time but they are never left to crawl about.

DM1975-snakes creep me out; had a real bad experience with my son and two rattlers several years back; however, creeped out or not, Tonto is a beautiful animal!

I understand. I grew up in Texas and dealt with rattlesnakes all the time. I used to catch them all the time and sell them. My parents didn't like it much but once you learn to respect an animal like that it can give you a whole new perspective on them. I have only ever been bitten by one rattlesnake and it was a dry bite but was completely my fault.
If I didn't have kids I would keep venomous snakes, but I will not risk my kids to something like that. Too many variables to safety with them. If a tornado hit us tomorrow and knocked my cage stacks over I wouldn't think twice about it, but with venomous it would be a very tricky predicament.

Left, that is another passion of mine, music. I played piano and guitar when I was younger and play the banjo now. I have owned a few Gibson and ESP guitars and currently have a 1957 Story & Clark piano plus a custom made banjo by Scott Zimmerman.

So I'd be willing to bet that no one else collects these: My main hobby, since I was about 10 years old, has been DX'ing AM radio (which for me involves collecting station ID's by recording them), so collecting radio station mugs and other radio ephemera has been close behind - in addition mugs, magnets, pens, pencils, keychains, etc. As you might expect, I also collect antique radios and multiband portables. Books? I probably have a few collectable copies amongst the 6,000 or so on my shelfs, including the autographed copies. And books about radio. As I happen on them, maps. And then there's the computer museum in my basement ... mostly old Macs, from the very first (in the original boxes) on through most of the Power PC's and laptops; an Apple ///; and a smattering of early '80's machines and one Commodore Pet. Parker pens - at least THEY don't take up as much room as the cups and computers!

Hey, I'm allowed. I fought in two wars, was a sniper, spent six years as a police officer in between, and still occasionally get to go out and shoot things and blow stuff up.

This is such an awesome thread. I absolutely LOVE hearing what y'all collect. Thanks for starting it, gillie! As for me, I collect...way too much. Modern US coinsModern US currency "The Three Investigators" hardbacks Jim Thome baseball cards & memorabilia 97, 98, 99, 00 baseball card sets (Donruss Elite, Fleer Flair Showcase mostly) Hard Rock Cafe pins Woodworking tools Scotch PMs John Stobart and Steve Hanks prints And, for the snake folks, I used to collect them too, I suppose. Had 5 at one point: 3 boas, 2 pythons. Would definitely be interested in the smaller breeds again (maybe a nice rainbow boa that doesn't eat much more than a mouse). Feeding live feeder rats to the big boys got to be way too brutal and bloody. That piebald ball python is so friggin' cool, DM1975.

Celticknot, thanks. Also, I feed only frozen thawed. Those Rainbows will get up to eating medium rats too, and they are very beautiful.

I love Yuengling. Every time my buddy goes up that direction I get him to bring me some. Almost as good as Lone Star...

Quote: I also have a few old clocks. When my grandpa passed, he had about 300 in his 1100 square foot house---yea, it was a hoot. Beautiful clocks! My grandfather had a nice collection of clocks (my grandmother has most of them now). I was fortunate enough to have him give me one while he was still alive.

Here is an old photo of my badge collection. It includes my badge, my dads badge, my grandpas badge, a Texas Ranger badge, several other older Texas DPS badges, and other various badges from around the country. One set of cuffs is mine and the other was my grandpas 100+ year old Astra cuffs. I have a few more badges in it now.
