To complement the current series of $1 coins depicting each president, the mint is also making a series of gold coins depicting the first ladies (that's the president's wife, in case that lingo doesn't translate). They are also making bronze medals featuring the same design, as a more affordable option, which is what the OP is referring to.
As to the original question, as with all collectables, only you can decide if they're worth getting. I'm considering getting the Jefferson medal, which has the draped bust Liberty depicted, since that's one of my favorite US coin designs and I'll never own an original UNC example.
