A family member wanted me to take a look at a coin for them. It's a Mexican 8 Reales and I'm completely out of my league. I know that counterfeit coins can be a issue quite often, hopefully from pics you can get a good idea.

Hard to tell from the pics. Strike seems ok. I'm a little concerned that the edge looks irregular or banged up and the faces look pretty clean. Search the forum for swamper bob comments for more info than I can provide.

You could put a photo of the singing of the coin? The weigh? diameter that is?

This coin does not "look right." Lettering is kind of screwy, denticles are bad. Weight and edges are important. I would not buy this coin.

I don't like the way those denticles look like, especially from Mexico (this is not Lima ...)
Moreover, letters look 'fat' and rounded, often a bad sign.
As told earlier, a picture of the coin's rim would help a lot ! (but those are hard to shoot ...)
