Poll Question
Hi everyone. I mostly search through nickels and pennies and my fingers tend to dirty very fast. I generally wash my fingers after every 1 to 2 rolls depending on how bad they look. How often do you find yourself washing your hands while roll searching?
I only wear gloves (powder-free, blue nitrile gloves) if they're brand new coins that I want to avoid getting fingerprints on. Otherwise I usually wait until I'm done to wash up, my hands are dry enough as it is.
The coins can be kinda gross, but copper and its alloys are antimicrobial, so they shouldn't be too germy unless they have big globs of crud. I have found stuff like old food in rolls on occasion, which will prompt me to wash up immediately.
Sometimes I go through a box and have to take a break somewhere in the middle. Before I do anything else I wash my hands, prepare food, restroom break, etc. But I usually wait until after I finish the box before I wash up if I go straight through.
Occasionally I will search a box of nickels while wearing a standard pair of latex gloves, however I usually just suck it up and wash my hands when I'm done searching for the day/night or if it will be more than a few minutes until I resume searching.
