Not a fan of colored coins at all! Its like all it does is deface what could have been a collector coin some day. Its just a way for people to make more money by putting sparkling color on an object so the majority of the populous of the country have something to oooooo, and ahhhh over. The populous comment is Not talking about those of us who can understand what beauty a coin has in its normal, intended, state. It ranks right up there with people who write on their currency!

I couldn't disagree more, If it is done artistically it can only enhance the design on the coin. Look at the way the gold plating enhances this coin

Some of those look kind of nice, however, I really can't see anyone wasting time painting a coin. If a person has such artistic abilities, I would think they would have a better place to display that ability. At least on a painting, the artist can add their name. No one knows who did those coins and eventually they will just vanish from existance, artist unknown. Waste of talent.

I don't like colorized coins, but that Aussie 50c gold plate is beautiful

Colored or gilded by the mint is a different story from after-market colored coins, which are absolute trash.

I admit they do not appeal to me at all; but in this hobby, to each their own. If it makes you happy, collect it!

Not a fan of coloured, plated, hologram coins, ruin the coins. Though that 50 pence is quite nice!

At this point I am not planning on (ever) buying coins colored by a third company. However, if the color is a part of the design and the coin fits my needs, I could get it, provided that the price is right. Like these couple of examples: Some of the modern coins use "stickers" instead of relief. I got a couple of those too. On the last two, with the ugly rendition of QE2, if you ask me, the sticker (colored) side looks more attractive than the obverse.

How do they colour coins ?
Is it paint, enamel, different metals, something else ?
Is it applied at the same time it's struck or afterwards ?
Is it done by machine or manually ?

I'll admit that I do find selectively plated coins to be very attractive, but I just can't see the appeal of colorized coins (whether produced that way by the mint or done after market). Mostly, I suppose, because they no longer actually look like coins to me.
To each his own, of course. I will say that coins produced in color from the mint might retain their collector's value over time since they are legitimate numismatic items, but after market colored coins will most likely end up being worth slightly less than bullion value in the long run.

I have that coin too, crzy3by, and I love it. I also have the baby goat, which I picked up right after Christmas. I really like the colorized "baby" series from the Perth Mint. I still need to find the snake and horse.
