If you've seen the current AC&B mag, you may have noticed a "Santa Claus" banknotes article with PCGS graded notes of, amongst others, "Very Choice New 64PPQ" and "Apparent Choice About New 58".

While the terminology used seems overly obtuse and somewhat tacky, this would indicate that your favorite slabbers know the revenue stream doesn't just stop at coins...

no there is no Sheldon grade on notes and they are still graded in the "old school fashion"

A quick google search and search of this forum shows this statement is actually wrong. It would appear as if there actually is some application of the sheldon system by TPG companies to paper money. See: http://www.pmgnotes.com/grading/grading-scale.asp

From what I can tell it seems as if PMG and PCGS are the two largest TPG for notes.

OK, now that the heat has gone out of this debate I have just a couple more questions.

1. I had a look at the Blue Sheet website and it would seem that they only provide valuations on pre-decimal coins. Is this correct?

At this stage yes.

2. Does the Sheldon scale apply to Bank notes?

Yes, there are some TPGs that grade notes incl PCGS.

Well isn't it interesting to see how public perceptions of TPG's have changed over time from then to now?

Yes it is (including my own).
Who would have thought that now I am now a fully fledged Member of PCGS and am actively sending coins in to be graded
Just goes to show that people CAN change their views and perceptions.
Also us "Old Dogs" can learn new tricks

Haha exactly trout I agree entirely especially with the changing views and perceptions but what is even more interesting is the increasing acceptance the TPG's are getting here. Unfortunately tho I think we are still a ways of getting our own PCGS grading center here [:/]

The only one we have in Aus at the moment is APCGS which is simply a rip off company trying to ride the coat tails of PCGS.
They overgrade all their coins and I wouldn't touch them with a pointed stick.
With the acceptance of slabbed coins on the increase I imagine that eventually there will be a "Genuine" grading company established in this country.

Yeah I saw one of those APCGS slabs on ebay from Peter Wallace and laughed at it it was graded VF+ on the slab, he stated it was actually EF+ and to be absolutely honest with you it would have only made F. I really hope there is an genuine grading company established here sometime it would only further promote third party grading here.
