I use to work at a scrap metal recycling center about 10 years ago. they have a huge steel shredder that a crane would load junk cars into. it then shreds the car apart into little 6-10 inch pieces. the pices would go down a conveyer anything that was magnetic it would go one way anything that wasnt would go the other way. I use to work on the conveyer that non magnetic stuff would go through and would get about 3 dollars or more a day of dammaged coins. alot of them look just like the nickel you have.
