I recently obtained this fairly interesting coin which I believe to be silver. It passed both the ring test and magnet test, and it seems to weigh out about right... but I can't be sure. Opinions?

I have a book: 'Illustrated Catalogue of Chinese Gold & Silver Coins' by Ma Tak Wo, publ. Taisei Stamps & Coins (HK) Ltd., which is quite comprehensive. This coin is not illustrated. Personally, I have not seen similar. I don't think that this a coin, or a pattern of one, but probably of coin weight, and of good silver.

Obvious fantasy - it's a coin that never circulated and the details are horrid at best.

The reverse of the coin is mirrored imaged.
It is a tael coin, so it should weigh more than 26.8 grams.

It is a silver-bullion. Chinese coins were sold abroad by weight. To save the work to make the many small coins so did the Chinese, some special export coins.
It was English opium from India were paid with such coin.

It does NOT look like silver. I'll eat my shorts if what haabet said is correct. Otherwise you can have the honors of doing so.

Fake absolutely! The four Chinese words of the lower image face down instead of facing up normally (I am Chinese). A fantasy strike. Not a silver coin.

It is someone's idea of a fantasy, and not a good one. The writing is not suitable for a real coin, the designs are poorly executed, and it is not silver, as far as I can see. If used for foreign trade, the people who received it would have to be idiots, like the guy whose grandmother has had a coin that was made in 2000 or later for over 50 years- just not believable at all.
