I save mine and roll them. I let my grandson take them to coin shows. He can usually get a good deal from someone and then he has some extra spending money.

I also roll the copper pennies and hold on to them, but I've only started with CRH, so we'll see what happens once it all stacks up. Maybe I'll give ebay a shot then.

That's some very interesting responses. I haven't been separating copper. I'm just looking for wheats and error pennies. Right now I'm going through a 30 year hoard of pennies and checking them. My wife had gone through them about 5 yrs ago removing all the wheats. Ha, I've found a cpl wheats already.

, jwguts!

If that's a glass jar, find some metal or heavy plastic, unless you look forward to pick out sharp pieces when the bottom falls out.

I am saving them from certain death, that is, from melting.

I suspect that acquiring cents and nickels in change, let alone in rolls and boxes, will be a distant memory by the time my son is old enough to search. I am keeping my hoard for him to look through.

And to keep them from being melted by profiteers.

I just save it. Maybe it will go up and be worth a lot more in the future like silver is now

I have about a hundred pounds of copper cents and had stopped saving them. Now that they will stop making the cent here in Canada, I may just have to start saving again and increase my hoard

Pretty ingenious little set up but I think I would buy one rather than go to all that trouble, lol.

Yes, I search boxes of pennies primarily to accumulate copper. I believe that these smaller copper cents would be better to trade and barter in tough times rather than silver which I can't afford. Copper pennies allows me to sell some off on ebay for Books!, because I'm a poor college student. Pennies are the most fun and entertaining to search with nickels being 2nd, dimes 3rd, halves 4th.
Rest in Peace

How do you work this? Woulnd't it just kill the buyer with shipping fees with such a weight to it?

In Canada or OZ, yes. In the US, $100 face fits in a priority flat rate box for $15 or so, including insurance.
