Im late to the game, only have 115$ face copper. 2 weeks ago 2 brinks boxes were good, and 2 s and s wrapped were good, Last week 8 brinks boxes were dry all 83 and newer. Id did buy my father in laws pennies friday 260$ face, and 85-90$ was copper, thats pushed me up good. the 115$ is without all the wheats, probually got another 10-20$ in wheats, but I wont throw them in the copper pile, just a seperate bag. My father in law has a ton of junk silver he hoarded away in the 60's and 70's, he cashed some in on the last silver spike and did very good, I'm hoping for the same down the road with copper pennies, and possibly nickels.

I watched the video. Five bucks for parts, $50 labor, then you need to be a skilled operator to know how to make adjustments, replace rubber bands, etc. I times it @ almost exactly 30 coins a minute (for comparison, a hand-crack coin counter will do 30 coins a second). If you get 20% (fairly typical, from what I've seen), and get 50% net over face, here's the machine's end of the equation: 1800 cph = 360 copper * 0.5 profit = $1.80 per machine, minus little things like vehicle costs getting and disposing of cents, time running the dump machine, etc. - Roughly $150 per day needed for one machine per day.
- $120 per day need to be returned
- How long before motor burns up, since it's designed for intermittent use?
If one operator can run five machines nonstop, and has access to $750 per day in cents and $600 a day for dumps, he could make minimum wage. Don't give up your day job.

You're probably gonna get a strained back somewhere along the way. I'll just stick to wheats and variety/errors.

very nice analysis biggfredd :) I like the way you think. What is a hand crank coin counter, I don't think I've ever heard of one of those.

Sold two 10lb lots of ebay... only made around $2 per lot so from now on I'm just going to hold onto them, not really worth selling them yet.

I rescued a "trashed" hand crank counter from a bank. Cost me 37¢ to repair. Still works like a champ.

I've been saving copper now for 5 years. If one can afford to hoard them, why not. I still have a standard savings account for emergency purposes, and my last statement, the interest rate was 0.09%. Not much of a loss there since thats the only thing your losing. In a way I agree with Jbuck about melting them, but the TRUE collector seems to be getting smaller every year. When I tell people I collect coins, most get that puzzeled look on their faces.........like WHY? We may be a vanishing breed.

Hey biggfred... Just got around to passing through this way again. I'm not so sure my glass jar is at risk. The glass is over 1/2" thick, and the jar is 20" tall and 11" wide. It's pretty big, and no one is likely to be moving it very much!

If it works, it works. Just pointing out that copper is a lot denser than water.

My hoard just passed $1100. Mine are all rolled and stored in Brinks penny boxes. It is easy to keep track of how many I have that way and they stack nicely 4-5 high. A 9 wide by 5 high stack really doesn't take up too much space. I hope to sell some at flea markets this summer along with my other "excess" coins and collectibles. Gotta fund my other hobbies(addictions) somehow.
