I know some of you expressed interest in the set. You might what to buy sooner rather than later. I'm actually still waiting for my set to arrive but I've been watching several auctions and the prices are getting steeper every time I look. Just the individual Jonah in the Whale coin went for $229.50 in MS 69 condition. Crazy, I know. The 2012 Coin of the Year cachet must be what's driving up the price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...p=true&rt=nc

traevin: I'm curious at the mintage of "500" are you referring to the set of 3 coins as having the mintage of only 500? Since the lowest mintage of each coin for the set is 2800 (2011 Elijah & Whirlwind has 5000 mintage). I am assuming the set mintage is only 500, if that's the case then APMEX doesn't have any listed..... The ~0.4oz version has the mintage of 1800 across three design... so mintage-wise, the ~0.4oz is better.... but I wonder why the ~0.9oz is hotter? Is it because less people collect 'fractional bullion'? Btw, nice coins set. You've got many people interested, which would only boost the future price..... hehehe

SAH4, It was listed as only 500 pieces in a set on ebay but I'm still waiting on the coins so I haven't seen the actual COA. I noticed APMEX is still selling the one I bought for around $350, plus whatever they charge for S&H. But as you noticed, there's a discrepancy on someone's part. APMEX claims 2800 sets but the seller, a well known European distributor named power coin, has a writeup with a mock COA showing 500 sets. I guess we'll see. Anyway, this is the set: http://www.apmex.com/Product/67769/..._278_oz.aspx

Thanks traevin,
Only the 2010 Jonah in the Whale coin won COTY of 2012. The other 2 coins are of prior year and post year (of the same series)..... I'm thinking of getting the 2 coins set of the 2010 Jonah in the Whale coin ($250ish) or if you can afford then get the 3 coins set w/ gold (about $1650ish)....

The makes sense. Focus on the coin that has the most upside. If I were to do it again, I would have bought just the Jonah and the Whale coin, myself. Much like the Mongolia gula gula, the coin is set to explode in price. This time next year, I predict it will be in the $400-500 range. If nothing else, just get the individual coin in silver while the price is still reasonable. I'm not sure if the gold version will have the same price exposition. There's an auction coming up in two days on ebay for an MS69 Jonah in the Whale. It will be interesting to see where the final price falls. I'm guessing between $200-250.

I just got the Jonah 2 nis proof from APMEX. Sold out again already, maybe they only had one. Was $150 + crazy shipping. But I've also had my eye on this coin for a while now and seen the $250 range auctions. Just wondering why you feel it could still go up, the COTY was announced a while ago and APMEX is selling for $150. Is this a normal trend and there is still upside possibility?

Hey Hobbes, I'll give you an example of why this coin, and any COTY, has such incredible upside. In 2009, a little known 2007 Mongolia coin called the gula gula won the award. But it took a least nine months or more before the coin gained traction and started heading north in price at a slow, steady rate. That was fortunate for me because I got mine for $75 at the time and it sold on ebay for $2000 last month. I'm not implying that this coin will have that sort of trajectory but for whatever reason, COTY coins are highly desired by collectors. And both coins have a similar mintage. Right now, they're still readily available. Two years from now, that won't be the case. But I didn't buy mine expecting a future payoff. I just liked the set. But come to think of it, I wouldn't mind buying the single Jonah in the Whale coin, should one become available. I've never bought from APMEX and I've heard their shipping rates are outrageous. But it might still be cheaper than the prices these are selling for on ebay. The last one I saw went for $229 a few days ago.

Well I do like the design of this coin and I am aware of the gulo gulo phenomenon. Here's hoping for a similar ride! I've ordered from APMEX before and you do get very good service from them. Shipping is high, but fast. Not a big deal if you can amortize the cost over a larger order.

SilentAsian4Hire, I got the set today and my personal pics will be coming soon. But I wanted to answer your question about the mintage discrepancy because it was a little disconcerting to me. As you predicted, the mintage was indeed listed as 2800 on the COA, not the 500 I quoted. As you might surmise, I was quite agitated by this and complained to the seller. He sent me the email below. English isn't his first language but his writing is fairly legible. From what I gather, the bank only minted 500 sets, instead of the planned 2800, for whatever reason. I haven't called yet but I believe the contact info he provided will turn out to be legitimate, considering what he's willing to do if it's not, and therefore I have no reason to doubt the mintage numbers. I haven't decided if I'll actually pursue this yet. Hello Jay (that's me), let me explain please. Each coin part of this set has a specific own mintage (higher than 500 of course). Then the Isreal Mint decided to issue a special set, with 3 coins in this box, and created only 500 set with this packaging. You don't have to believe me, you can write to the mint: http://www.israelmint.com/enand ask all information about this set, and the SET MINTAGE as well. If they don't answer quickly, this is my contact at mint: Iris Vainer Sales & Marketing ICMC - Israel Coins & Medals Corp Tel: 972-4-8212805 ext. 215 Fax: 972-4-8212818 Email: iris@icmc.co.il Please call her or write her a mail and ask about the set you bought from me, Power Coin. We are official authorized dealers and if we said something incorrect I promise I will refund you and you can keep the set as gift, furthermore I will add 1,000 USD as gift for you to apologize. I say that because I am 100% sure of what I said about this set. I hope that the mint will solve any doubt, you have in hand a rare set and I hope you will be happy with your purchase. For any other doubt don't hesitate to write me. Thank you, Antonello.

Each of the three coins has a mintage of 2800. The Israel mint packaged 500 (of the 2800) of each coin to make 500 of those sets. I'm guessing the COA you have is for one of the coins? Jonah in the Whale perhaps?
Nice set. I was originally only interested in the Jonah coin, but the more I look at the set....

Hobbes, They're selling the set at the Israeli Mint for $450, and right around that at Downies. Of course, APMEX can easily beat both. It's very rare on ebay, though. I can tell you, now that I actually have the coins in hand, the set's incredibly nice. I'm somewhat partial to the Jonah and the Whale. I can see why it was voted COTY. But the Elijah in the Whirlwind coin is well designed, also. The other one, portraying Samson, has sort of a reverse proof, which, IMO, is just okay. The mirror finish on the other two is superb, immaculate, and the pics don't do justice to either coin. They're easily MS69 or better. I have half a mind to buy another set for future resale, I'm so confident this will be a hit. It's definitely one of the nicest sets I've ever beheld. Just as good if not better than the Perth offerings I've seen and owned. Even the outer sleeve artwork and presentation case are first-rate all around and obviously well thought out products, capturing the essence of the bible stories I grew up learning in Sunday School. My only gripe is the generic COA. No personalized COA number, just mintage totals for every coin in the respective sets. Big fail, there. Pobjoy does the same thing and I've never liked theirs, either. But overall, the set's better than anticipated, and it's easy to tell that whomever minted these coins didn't take any shortcuts. Stellar effort!
