I have an 1899 10 rubles coin with Nicholas II on it.
I thought for a long time that the coin was fake but recently I took it to a coin dealer and he said the weight was right for gold (8.6G) and that it was genuine, and he offered me $375 cash. I almost died.. A friend who knows nothing about coins bought me a 1 troy OZ walking liberty and this came "Free with purchase"
Does anyone know about these coins being faked? I am still skeptical. Its a ReALLY good fake if it is..

Way too low. I think its worth closer to 800 dollars.

Do you have photos?

I cant say for sure from those photos but heres my Two Cents. One of the dead givaways for a fake gold coin is its size/weight. According to the dealer, it has the correct size/weight. Gold is a very difficult metal to replicate in terms of density, meaning that its hard to find a metal which would be the exact same size and weight as gold (I've heard of tungsten and uranium being used, but this is all theoretical iirc). So since it matches the dimensions, the case for this coin being real looks really good.

There is always a possibility that it is a gold counterfeit (i.e. the counterfeiters use real gold to fake the coin). However, 1899 is an extremely common date for Russian 10 Roubles (around 29 million minted). This means that unless they are in exceptionally high grade, they are worth bullion value. So realistically, a counterfeiter isn't going to use real gold to make a fake, which is only worth gold value (the process of making a gold fake would be worth more then the counterfeiter would make).

So to conclude I'd say its very unlikely that this is a fake. Its a nice coin btw, I have been interested in adding one to my collection for a while.

Hard to say - there are known counterfeits of 1899 10 rubles even with the same gold tone, dimension and weight. How it is done is beyond anyone's comprehsion but if you want to read more about it, there's a thread in coinpeople.com Those are extremely scary and it's only experts who can tell the differences. Even I struggle to comprehend such counterfeits. But I suppose if it's worth that much money, it's worth being counterfeited.
