F=£175

It's in pretty rough shape though so probably a fraction of that.

You can usually guide your self by ebay prices but only when item is sold for that sum of money or has few or one bid.
People can post items on ebay and ask abnormal prices for them.

Coin you posted is km739 number in Krause catalog, and has price in that catalog: F 50$ and VF 135$ and has mitage of 269 000. Better pics might help to determine in with condition your coin is.

PS I love 19 century coins

Your coin is piece of copper, sorry, but collectors wouldn't buy coin in this condition. I would say it is poor and value about 3GPB at best. and by the way date is worn of.

I don't understand why 1849 pennies have such high catalog value. The mintage, not very high, is still greater than in 1948; besides 1848 has a couple of overdate varieties - still 1849 is about 10 fold more expensive.
And then there was no issue in '50. What happened those years, anybody knows?

As has already been said the only way to tell on ebay is to see what something sells for.

Mintage figures sometimes should be ignored.The published figure for 1849 could include a proportion of coins dated 1848 or 1850.
This happens frequently in UK coins.Catalogue prices have generally weeded out true rarities and a 1d dated 1849 are genuinely scarce.

I know I definately had some of these pennies and a couple of cartwheels but they were so worn I think they either got discarded, lost or even melted down.

I see I can buy these dated 1838-1860 in VF for £35 from a coin retailer, they dont list the individual dates available but maybe its time to re-introduce these coins to my collection.

I located mine, it is such a big coin I couldnt store it with the rest of my copper it was in a big velvet case with trays along with the silver. :) glad it wasn't scrapped because it was in OK condition.

That's worth about £60. The 1849 is rare relative to the 1948, a) because most of the 1849 mintage was dated 1848, and b) because most of the pre-1860 pennies were destroyed in 1869. Poor condition, but some collectors would buy it just to fill in the date until they can find a better quality one.
