Is This A 1949 A To Denticle? - Coin Community Forum

pennymax Valued Member 71 Posts	Posted 04/22/2012 10:05 pm Hello everyone, So I was coin roll hunting and my box was full of 1940s and 1950s coins so I sorted through and found 15 1949 pennies and decided to check them for an A to Denticle. I am new to this and not sure but I think I may have found one. I am looking at the second A in GRATIA and not the first A correct? Here is a picture: What do you think? Am I looking at the right A? (the second one) If it is infact an A to Denticles what grade would you give it? Report this Post to the Staff

A to Denticle refers to the fact that the 2nd A in the word Gratia on the obverse points directly to a denticle instead of slightly off to the side. These are commonly recognized as the two major variants of the 1949 1 cent (and others). Frequently 1 variant is significantly rarer and hence more valuable as in this case.
