Umayyad-Islamic-Ae-Fils

Umayyad Islamic AE Fils, 4.9g, 18.48mm

This is my first ancient coin that is not Roman in any way that I know of. I have no clue how to attribute this coin, so I am going with the seller's partial attribution. The coin was also fairly cheap at $3, so I quickly purchased it.

I looked all over the internet a few times and have not found a match. I am going to try to contact this one site and see if this person knows what this coin is. Any help would be appreciated.

Same as yourself.

I am weak re islamic coins. If they come cheap, I will buy them, in the hope that in the future, I will have enough education to attribute them without assistance.
Richard Plant's book 'Islamic Coins and How To Read Them' is of some assistance.

From my very limited current understanding, $3 is a good buy.

That is how I accumulated the bulk of my 200+ Chinese cash collection. I was buying them originally at 10 to 20 cents each, not having a clue about their identification. I have now sufficiently educated myself enough to have achieved reliable identification of them all. That was fun.

Thanks for the information. I will try to find the book by Richard Plant as soon as I can.

I'm planning on eventually purchasing more than just Roman Imperial coins in the future. I saw quite a few that I wouldn't mind owning. We shall see.

As far as those ancient Chinese cash coins are concerned. I was planning on purchasing a few from Dirty Old Coins at about $3 each, I believe. I have a friend of mine who lives in China, he was telling me about them and apparently knows quite a bit. He also warned me that there are a lot of fakes out there, despite being of low value.

You should have asked me! I'm a specialist in Umayyad and Abbasid Dinars, Dirhams, and Fals.
This Fals is pretty common it is an anonymous dated issue, on the other hand, it is minted in Harran.
Even though its common, you got a good deal, these go around 30-35$ if sold to the right collectors.
I however, have 13 of this same coin, some even in EF condition :)
Anyways if you ever have any Umayyad coins for identification, please dont hesitate to send me a private message.

that umayyad coin is fantastic, looks byzantine influenced.

I'm no help here, but that's a great coin for 3 bucks GG.
