A few months ago I started coin roll hunting through Canadian pennies. I was naive: I was only looking for "old" pennies. I didn't know about errors, magnetic, etc. So, I just got another two boxes, plus I still have the coins from my last two boxes.
I need advice: what should I be looking for? In Canadian pennies, is there a good list somewhere that just shows varieties, errors etc.? Are there good techniques for going through large quantities of coins? Do you look for one kind of variety first, then another? Do you sort all the coins by date?
What about storage? Re-rolling? What do people do?
Thanks! Mishkin.

Hi John1 - thanks! Great education there with that list! I'm wondering if there is such a list that just focuses on pennies. For a lot of the varieties and errors, I imagine (please correct me if I'm wrong) that certain dates have certain errors that people have found and catalogued. Is there such a list?

mberteig, try going to, http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.phpIf you click on any link to the pennies, it will list different varieties for each year. If you go to the year, there will often be photos showing the differences between the varieties, and will list other significant errors. Best of luck.

mberteig: There is a web site that would help with sorting. (thecentpproject dot com )He does have a good system, have not tried yet I separate by decade and then down to years after that, also down to mag or not ect. Seems like a lot of work but that way if any think comes up I can go back to just that year. Pick out all the keepers ,more in-depth reading on this fantastic forum to find out different variances for each year. A lot gets rolled and back to the bank and pick up another 25.00 bag but keep that copper. Good hunting

I went to Canadian tire and bought a pack of 4 little transparent case. you decide how big you what your compartements inside.Put a sticker of the year on each part. for the 50's and older I have them by decade since I don't usually get a lot.i sort them like that so when I feel like going through them I check a year and look for varieties.
