Quote:Per the RCM Annual Report for 2009, the number sold was 2,834. The coin was not that popular with collectors at the time and was not a sell out when originally offered. So they melted the rest?

@Bibo, look at how much people are willing to pay for a nickel bird coin with much higher mintage. The moon mask is stunning

Quote: So they melted the rest? The RCM doesn't always strike all of the coins it can for a particular issue until it determines collector interest and sees how sales are going. For example, for a coin with a stated maximum mintage of 10,000 the RCM may strike 5,000 in an initial production run and then not strike any more unless sales warrant it. For the 2009 silver Summer Moon mask, it's likely the RCM struck only a portion of the total possible - maybe 4,000 or 5,000. So, while it appears a certainty that they melted some, it was probably just a thousand or two.

Quote: Mind is # 4489 The COAs are not used in perfect sequence and do not correspond to the order in which the coins were struck (i.e., the 1000th coin struck could have COA # 235 or vice versa). It is not uncommon for folks to have coins with COAs that have a higher number than the number of coins minted/sold.

Is $180-$200 a good price for this coin?

@Bibo, I say it's a good price. However, if you're patient enough, you might be able to catch something lower. This you can only hope though.

I think coinchick here has an extra. Maybe you can contact her to see if it's possible for a trade.

It just looks like, more and more people, even not collectors involved into the hot items game...
