All of the 2012 pennies I got in change have been magnetic. I have 4 that I kept in UNC looking condition. I have a roll of non-magnetic, which to me seem more rare due to the fact that all I have found are magnetic ones

It seems to me that the non-magnetic is more scarce. However, they have at least one million in mintage.

I stand corrected (at least in your location).
Petersun: how do you know the 1 million thing?

Got to be at least TWO million, then, since they were showing "the last million"

Two Millions is still not a lot of mintage for cents compared to the previous years.

There are going to be a lot minted, not enough to make them "rare". Still every 2012 penny I find I keep :P If any of my US fellows want one let me know, I'm happy to share, got too many piling up in 2x2s haha

just wonder where to get the new 2012 penny rolls? I go to 3 banks today, they said they do not carry any brand new roll.

Quote: Are there any design or color differences between the magnetic and non-magnetic? I'm no expert on Canadian cents, but when I received a few of each cent recently, I was surprised how different the finish was on the coins. The steel cents have a shiny finish, whilst the zinc coins has a slight hazy look about them. Is this normal? Steve

Update: I have now pulled several (10 or so) non magnetic from rolls. I have found a couple of magnetics too.

Well, Canadian Coins & Currency is stepping up the promotion of the "Scarce 2012 1 Cent Coins", with a full page add in the latest Canadian Coin News.
Offering:
CPS for $10 a roll in "last issue" wrapping. $300 for a box of 50
CPZ for $8 a roll in "last issue" wrapping. $200 for a box of 50 $300 for a box of 50 stamped "last day"
If you acquire the maximums per customer, you would have 650 rolls, and 32,500 coins.
You know, scarce.

When I go to the bank for my coin order of 4 boxes of pennies per week to sort through for old coins I've been getting brand new boxes of mint coins. Which I don't want. I've received 10 boxes of both kinds.

i know this is irrelevant but I bought a whole 2012 roll of magnetic pennies from a corner store at face value and I also received an EF twoonie 2012 in change as well as a grey cup BU 2012 loonie!
