So after reading this thread, I picked up a box of dimes ($250) from my local branch yesterday and went through them last night. Sure enough, there were two silver Canadian dimes ('65 and '67) and an Australian nickel as a bonus. I'm now 3 for 3 in finding non-US-or-Canadian currency in boxes - 4 Bahamas pennies in a box of pennies, and a Bermuda nickel in a box of nickels.

I'm going to try quarters next, and see if I can build up some statistics on silver found per time invested :)

I have found 3 Australian 5 cents, 2 cuban coins, but the most common by far are the 5 pence from the UK. I usually find 2 in each box that I search.

Went through a box of quarters last night and struck out on silver. So far I'm at 2/2500 for dimes and 0/2200 on quarters (box + 5 rolls).

^ Actually it is a Bobcat. http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/learn...ents-5300010

Although Bobcatand Lynx are in the same family they are a different species.

How is 1 in 1500 dimes for a silver find so far? That and a small date 1969 :(

I hate those Cuban coins though, worth what, half a cent, and easy to get.

I don't know, since I live in the USA. I would say dimes, though.

quarters have been my best for finding silver. I average one per box with the occasional lucky roll ( 7x 1953 quarter in one roll, 6x small date and 1x large date )

Just went through another box of dimes and got two more silver ('63 and '66). So now I'm at 4/5000. Going to do another box of quarters next.

Wow that would be a terrific find!

Definitely someone in my area doing this, other than that one 1965 they all stop at the magnetic 1968's. 1/1750 now, which really isn't that bad. At this rate though, in about fifteen years, I'd say silver dimes and quarters across the country will be just about done in circulation and coin rolls with only very rare exceptions.
