The story behind that dime... I sniped it on an
ebay auction that ended at a bit of an odd time (a Tuesday afternoon). It wasn't mis-categorized or mis-labeled, it was from a regular seller with good feedback, and it had decent pictures. So I think it's proof that there really are good deals on
ebay if you're patient, and if you're a seller, you really want to have your auctions ending during peak times.
I think it's also a lesson in the perils of grading from pictures. The seller's pictures really overemphasized the flaws of the coin, it looked like maybe MS62FB (although I suspected this because I'd bought from them before and found the coins looked better than the pictures). Based on the guesses, my pictures must make it look like 65 or even 66. In hand, it has the graze on the cheek looks a little more noticeable, and there are a number of light marks and hairlines on the neck that show up for the "wobble" test but aren't easily captured in pictures. I'd call it MS64FB.
