I do not think that the $1 proof set is available yet, I do not see them on the US Mint web site; & the upcoming products page states "Spring United States Mint Presidential $1 Coin Proof Set"

Well the new coins went over great in school. When the kids in the other classes saw them they all wanted some also. In fact some teachers were given the couple leftovers and one teacher, who insisted on paying, asked for a second one because her grandson is a coin collector and would love the addition.
Long story short they were a big hit and he has to bring a few more in for other friends on Tuesday.

Hi MilaCent!

I went by the bank today and picked up some Denver mint coins -- you just have to love brand new coins! CoinGirl, CoinBoy, and I are anxious to get some Philly mints - we would love to make a trade!

If any of you Knights or Knightesses wish to pay for 2007 medallions with NEW dollars I wouldn't shy away from the offer as these will be a tough find in this area and I have promised them to collectors in Europe so feel free to get in touch with me!!! Just a thought I would like to pass on!

Article in Coin World stated that the roll wrappers are made in Harrisburg PA and another company does the wrapping I would cut and paste it but not sure if that is allowed.

ronaldb112.....The one dollar proof set is only available right now through subscription. Even if you order a subscription right now, they're still not being shipped until spring.

What a scratched up mess. The outside coins look like they were chewed by the wrapping machine--concentric circular gouges for about 1/2 inch.
Rest in Peace

Here's my story.

It starts out bad, but ends up very good.

Last Thursday, when the dollars were released, my wife and I set out for Denver and the State Wrestling Tournament.

Before leaving Delta I checked with my banks which had promised they would have coins available. Zip. Zilch.

Even my credit union let me down, saying they might have a few available at the end of the month.

So, disappointed and a little disgusted, we proceeded to Grand Junction, which is the largest city in western Colorado. While there we stopped by our favorite coin store, International Coins. They had just gotten a Fugio cent in, and I got to hold it. First time I ever saw one up close.

Another coin shopper told me about a couple banks in Grand Junction which had the dollars. She was afraid however, that one needed to be a customer to be able to buy the dollars.

So, off we went to the bank. Sorry to say I have forgotten the name of the bank. I asked the teller if they had the new dollars and she replied "Yes!" I then asked if I could buy a roll. She smiled and said "Do you have $25?" I hauled out my cash and paid for the roll.

The teller then said they also had rolls of the new Montana quarter available, and would I care for some. So, I bought a roll of those also.

So, I was a happy camper as we headed on to Denver.

We just returned within the hour, but I still haven't had time to check out the new coins.

I can report this. There was a lot of excitement among the people I saw who were handling the Washington Dollar for the first time. If the enthusiasm continues, I think this series may be as popular as the Statehood Quarters.

Hit a couple of banks here is Mooresville, NC and none have the dollar coins yet. Will keep trying. Maybe I will have to buy one of each from a dealer or another forum member who may be selling them. Just too much trouble to hit a different bank as they give you a hard time if you do not have an account with them.

Seth:

I also see the "a scratched up mess", I believe the US Mint has added an extra step to prevent the oxidation -Tarnish of these coins, it usually is wash/coat/dry step, I am still investigating the process they are (?) using,

Indianhead:

thanks, for the info on the DG$1(DG=Dead Guys)proof sets. I am passing on the US Mint subscription service, do not have faith that they will do it right every year.

I am going to either wait for the spring 2007 release or buy the Combo 2007 silver proof set.

Soooo...with all the wrappers saying Harrisburg how do these guys on ebay sell "Denver" mint rolls without opening them. The rolls they show are also from PA.

There is no key that I can see on the outside of the rolls. ?

I picked up a roll last Friday on my way to get a haircut, but the teller would only give me one roll. I just busted it open, they are all P-mints with beautiful luster (although the end pieces show a trace of diminished luster already). A coupla thoughts ... the Mint will strike out in marketing P- vs. D-mints, they are just too hard to read on the edge. I also think having the date on the edge will ultimately prove to be a disappointment to a lot of collectors. The coins themselves are beautiful and show good production values, although Washington, like in so many portraits, looks like his teeth hurt.

I don't mind the mottoes on the edge. I can even accept that Liberty is superfluous with the Statue of Liberty on the reverse.

But I strongly disfavor the date and mintmarks on the edge.

My Mom bought a roll at her bank. Also, my Grandpa has some. I think they are really cool and I hope my Mom buys me a folder to keep them in.

Bye.
