Looks like a normal coin with zinc rot. The ear doesn't show me a DDO?

I see the extra earlobe and the die pit between "WE" and "TRUST".

When I'm sorting through my cents I don't even examine ones that look like that, they generally just go into a pile of culls unless they're a date that I only get in small numbers (e.g. I look even at corroded 1970-S cents because I am lucky to even get one in a box). I don't want to find one like this. The time I spend looking at an ugly coin like this could instead be spent looking at a nice one which is just as likely to be a variety.

When I spot a damged/zinc rotted/extremely off color coin, I toss them, not even looking to see what is there. I figure I would never want a coin like that, so I throw them back.

Look at the reverse die--it's almost shattered.

They usually go right back in the box, but I was able to spot the ear at a clance and had to take a closer look. Sure enough, there it was. What an emotional roller coaster ride.
