This coin is severely damaged...probably from dropping onto a parking lot face down, having been run over a few times, then picked up by someone else who probably spent it. The damage is on one side because that's the only side that was subject to the gravel, sand, concrete - the other side was run over by a rubber tire. I would really think something like this would be quite obvious, but oh well. You've got my very plausible answer. Nobody can know for absolute certain how this coin was damaged, just that it definitely is.
