The 1870 dime is well

Newfoundland-Ten-Cents-1870-OBV-1

Newfoundland-Ten-Cents-1870-OBV-1known for its weak strike. So how do you think this one will grade?

What a great looking obverse, but so much rub on the reverse.

The 1870 NFLD dime always has a weak reverse. I've never seen a really strong one. I've owned some ICCS VG-10 1870 pieces before with most of the reverse illegible. Hard to grade and this is why this one is here!

Take a look at this one for comparison: http://www.ebay.com/itm/25094104199....m1438.l2649

This type of wear pattern is due to a convex reverse.

And 1870 certainly has the most extreme of that reverse type for the series. So DBM looking at the ICCS example from ebay, I think the obverse on my coin is noticeably better but the reverse is just a little weaker. What do you think?

I think it would grade VF-20. Weak reverses are common in this series.

Here's an F15 OBV2 that was on ebay for comparison.

Thanks, DBM! I think this one has a lot more hair detail but the plastic ICCS cover can hide so much in a picture.

Any more opinions on this one? I know there are some veteran NFLD collectors on here. Do they have a take on the grade?

Thanks for the input, fredor! I know this one will go F-15 minimum for sure. But being a dreamer I like to think....hmmmm, maybe it just might...who knows...

Come on, kitkat. This one is far better. I have a VG-10 ICCS Victorian NFLD dime here and there's no comparison. I hope you have a better day tomorrow!
