This piece will be included in a batch of coins I'l be submitting to ICCS at TOREX. In addition to the usual question of grade I'd like to solicit opinions on the unusual formation between the hair and eye. It's on the same plane as the hair and extends toward the eye. Do we think whatever this is will impact the grade? Also, is the speckled appearance of the reverse evidence of an old cleaning?

The first image is a photograph; the next two are scans. Although my scanner seems to have a built-in Grade Reduction Mode, it outlines the formation in question nicely.

Looks like a small piece has flaked off the flan, probably post mint. Does not worry me too much. Not familiar with the detail of this series. Will leave that to others.

Nice coin! Looks like a dig above the eye with the misplaced metal resting at the bottom of the dig. It should go F-15. Scarce and a keeper!

Is that weird toning on the reverse, or am I seeing a die clash?

Gonna say F15. Appears to be a Medium Date, Pointed 5 Variety, if memory serves me right

Update: The coins are back from ICCS.

Life has taught me always to ballast my hopes but I thought this coin stood a good chance of breaking that difficult F-15 barrier.

The other 5 coins in this submission were:

CAN 1923 1c VF-20 Corrosion
NFLD 1888 1c F-12
NFLD 1880 5c F-12
NFLD 1894 20c VF-20 Obv 1
PEI 1871 1c EF-45

Thanks for looking and commenting!
