The Romans sure had some very direct ways of offing themselves--fall on sword, stab self, ex-sanguination, take poison--nothing which involved second-guesses; perhaps it's one reason they got as far as they did?

Hey DVC ... hi (how is the summer treatin' ya, so far?) ... ours is good ...

=> oh sorry => you're 100% correct => the Romans never chose an iffy means of offing themselves (once they decided to die, they really did want to die ... for it was gonna be a worse fate than death, if the enemies caught them!!)

example => a life of being a slave and having unthinkable things happen to you for as long as they let you live .... so, it was far better to choose your own poison ... as they say

JWH => hey, my birthday is August 9th (for those pondering what to buy good ol' stevex6) ... anyway ...

NOTE => sorry to jump the gun, but did anything interesting happen in the Greek/Roman Press on that day in history?

Thanks, Bing

J

I believe they celebrated the future birth of a God named Jerry.

A God named Jerry, eh? ...

Hmmmm? ... well, he certainly sounds like he'd be a fair and knowledgeable God ... right?

Bing => hopefully, you'll get to see this photo before it is censored ...

For the record, it is merely a photo of Jerry Lewis (looking goofy for a change) ...

Why would this photo be censored? He was great comedian in his time IMHO, but perhaps not a God, eh?

I like how vcoins sends out these emails. They are interesting bits of history and always include some nice coins of these emperors.

jwharper => do me a favour and go back into any of my old threads and see if any of my "noncoin" photos can still accessed/seen ... for whatever reason, they seem to all be blocked (maybe it's just me?)

thanks

You are correct Jerry old buddy. It's been a while since I've read the rules, but I guess these are not allowed. I need to review the rules, but I see the images you have posted as adding to the overall thread. A little humor goes a long way IMHO.

I didn't sign up for these emails, but I assume one gets added to the mailing list once a purchase has been made. I've also signed up as a bidder on Vcoins auctions, so that may be where they got my email. I don't generally give out my email address just because I don't like to receive unwanted email. However, I do enjoy these.

We don't mind a funny photo being uploaded every now and then but we're going through now checking members images. It's quite disturbing what we're finding. If you've uploaded 40MB of non-numismatic "funny" images they will be removed. Please use Photobucket or something for that kind of stuff.
