A skewed bell curve of ages is forming. That is what I would expect.

95% of y'all are chronologically younger than I am. That percentage would shift quite a bit if 'emotional age' were taken into account. Always remember, you're never too old to have a happy childhood. Whooo thought my screen name referred to coins?

26. Started collecting 15 years ago. I stopped with collecting between my 16th and 21st. After 21st I started searching at least uncirculated coins.

This is a great topic! I'm thrilled to see plenty of under forty collectors. I guess gaming hasn't totally taken over the world. I'm fifty and I've collect a few notes and some spare change on and off since my twenties. Just seriously started in the hobby with my 13 year old son last Canada Day. I'm not into gaming, so it gives us some common ground. It dispels the notion I had that coins was the preserve of the over the hill gang! My next question would be why did people get into collecting ? This forum is great for those of us far away from coin shops/shows . Rox

As old as I am, I'm still younger than the vast majority of coins in my collection! BTW, I was born when one of those guys on the currency (Dwight D. Eisenhower) was still the President.

That you NOT for that information, BamaBlue! It means I was born when Truman was still in office. I never realized that.
I just had an idea: Do collectors, say under 30, prefer learning about coins through the Internet or by personal contact. Or, a combination of both.
If someone can help me set up a poll I'll start to work on it.

I dont think there is anyone, any age who could look at a stack of BU Morgan dollars, Walking Liberty halves, ASEs, etc... and not be impressed. The only question is; would they want to keep them to cherish and admire or try to immediately sell for a profit? Of course I'm impressed by the beauty, history, and potential value I suppose, but I also think I'm a little obsessive compulsive in that I like collecting things and completing sets etc.... I guess I'm lucky I like collecting coins rather than Avon beer mugs and plates. (No offense to Avon collectors)
