I guess I'm on the younger side. But everyone here seems pretty nice to each other.

Welcome to the forum ElizSmith - I am a relatively new member and have found this community friendly and supportive. While I am on the opposite edge of the age spectrum from you, I do not think that age is an issue in discussing our common interest. Pete

Thank you, Pete2226 I'm already learning a lot from this site. Getting the hang of the wording and stuff, but so far I'm liking it here :)

At 26 I am used to selecting the first or second age range when asked. I feel like an old man having to choose the FOURTH!

Interesting, there are more younger members than I would expect and the distribution is almost bi-modal. I thought that coin collectors were aging out and not being replaced at similar levels.

Traditionally internet forums tend to have a high percentage of younger members so I'm not sure if CCF is a good representation of the coin collecting community as a whole. However it is great to see so many younger collectors here that are in my age bracket since whenever I go to a coin show I'm usually one of the youngest. Perhaps the tide will start to change .......

21-25 here. Started a little younger, but still completely fascinated with it. When I go into antique stores, and other stores searching around for coins, and little 5 cent pick and choose bins filled with random knick knacks, I feel as if I'm the only young one there! Joining this forum has shed some light on that, though. :)

You're quite possibly still right. However, the (fewer) younger replacements are more connected than any generation before; it's instinctive for them to get online and connect to others with similar interests. So, even if there are fewer going forward, those who are still there will be interacting more widely than anyone before, reinforcing their knowledge and becoming better collectors more quickly than we ever could.

I'm a YN, although I'm as serious with numismatists as some adults. Heck, I run a coin business.

Born in 1950 and started collecting in 1963. Took about 40 years off but back at it again.
