Has anyone considered that there may be some lamination in the middle of the coin and this tiny void may be responsible for the different ring sound ?

Maybe a hearing test is indicated.

The only time I have found coins with a different ring to them, was around the 2006 era. They turned out to have a split in the side of them and could be pried apart with force. Found quite a few of them at that time, but haven't seen any since.
