As you all know I like threepences
I think I now reached the point that I am ready to finish off my threepence collecting and bring together what I have got. I have a basic collection and am now up to looking for variety and errors.

There are a few coins that I know like the 1948 blobby, 34/33, 22/21 and what I have from a scanned page in an old book, but it wasn't complete and I only have the later date stuff.

Sooooo does anyone have a book that tells you threepence varieties and errors to look for and do they have pictures AND can you scan it for me and put a picture up or email me.......pretty please

I have a scanned page of Renniks sixth edition 1970.

The listed know die varieties I can make out.
It has 1917 die crack (third leg that you mentioned) straight crack and angled crack
1925 crack to rim
1934 ? think it's a picture of a close arrow to date (don't know if its supposed to be an over date variety) or something else -- that's what you get for having a scan of half a page of the book.
1943 Cuds on die
1944 doubling on 4
1947 crack to rim
1948 crack to rim
1952 crack to rim
1957 crack to rim

I have found heaps of my own threepences that have die cracks, that are not mentioned, but I think it may have been common for small die cracks to appear from the letter to the rim, especially the "P" in threepence.

Hay I might have to make up a excel spreadsheet of all the coins I end up finding.

The renninks I have I think is 2007. When I get home I will check but I'm sure there are several pages of threepence varieties/errors.

The only book I have are Greg McDonald coins and banknotes 2010
And a really old red pocket book for penny's, that you tick a box when you get the coin.

I would love to see the Fred levers book page on threepence, defiantly scan it for me enworb, I'm sending a PM to you just so you have my email.

nicwinner any help is greatly appreciated :)

Yep! The ornament (arrow) on the right is closer to the date than the one on the left. Have a really good look at the 4 to make quite sure there's no 3 underneath it.

Hi "Australian Coin"
Last night I went through my threepence collection. This includes good condition coins, but also some coins in poor condition. I am keeping the latter for nostalgia's sake.
You see, I got the coins from the Commonwealth Savings Bank in Liverpool (NSW) back in the early 70's. I used to take my pocket-money into the branch to swap each 5 cents for two threepence coins.

Anyway, I found two interesting coins in my collection. One is the 1927 threepence where the emu appears to be missing a leg and the kangaroo appears to be missing arms. I have attached the image below. From first inspection I thought this may be due to differential wear on the coin, but comparison with the more worn 1910 threepence indicates that this may not be the case. Any thoughts ?.

The 1951 threepence has a crack to the rim near the bottom of the coin. There appears to be a bulging of the coin on the bottom right hand side, below the ribbon and above the "PENCE" lettering . I have also attached the image below.

So perhaps sometimes it is best not to throw away poor condition coins. At least not before inspecting them closely first .

Wow (again) to nancyc .
Yes, you are right. There is a second die crack from the C to the rim in the 1951 threepence. What eyesight !

As homework, I used nancyc and Australian Coin's list to check though my threepence collection. I found the 1922 "Bar in Shield" error. It occurs in my old "Commonwealth Savings Bank coin" . I have attached an image of this error (LHS coin) next to my better condition (and without error ) 1922 threepence.
