I just bought this coin: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...t_500wt_1216

for 486 tax and shipping inclusive.. did I do okay? I'm looking to collect pennies from every year as well , but definitely going to be a slow process. Tips appreciated :)

seems overpriced based on 2012 volume 66 Charlton. Which lists 1913 $5 VF-20 $400, Yours is VF-30...but for $450 Charlton lists AU-50. Great looking coin though and welcome!

don't be too disappointed, I am not sure what the price of gold WAS when they published this catalog and came up with the prices.

Your coin weighs 8.36grams and is 90% gold. Therefore AGW (Actual Gold Weight) is 8.36(.9) = 7.524grams

gold today is $53.50/gram in CAD dollars.

7.524*53.50= $402.534...therefore you paid $84 over spot price, which I think is decent for a coin like this

I'd be happy with the purchase, yes you paid a premium price right at the top of or slightly over the book value, but the coin is already graded, so that saves you the cost of getting it done, and it's a nice problem free coin that should hold its value well over the years. And welcome to the leading coin addiction forum on the net! ;-))

That is a lovely old coin. It's in great shape.

Good luck with the penny collection. I hope you find a lot of them!

To CCF! Nice coin! For only $84 over spot, that isn't bad at all IMO!

I think the price is fair, which is a lot better than getting ripped off. Plus having .24 oz of gold, it will go up in value over the years.
