1837 Liberty Head 1 Cent Piece - Coin Community Forum

robinw41984 New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 06/19/2012 4:53 pm I have been looking online to find out if this coin is worth anything. It is a 1837 (I believe) liberty head 1 cent piece but I noticed a small letter engraving close to the maiden's face. The letters appear to be W M N does this mean that the coin isn't real? Counterstamps were frequently used as advertising gimmicks onÂ large centsÂ and other coins. The counterstamp leaves a permanent impression on the metal and may hurt the value of the coin.
