This coin is selling on Wednesday at Teletrade. I found it mixed in with the Lincolns. Seems like a Confederate reproduction. Hope the image uploads OK. Also the 2 ANACS traildies from Sunday didn't even get one bid.
It is a centennial restrike struck from transfer dies that were created using the original Confederate dies. The "damage" that you see is from the cancellation of the original CSA dies. A common misunderstanding is that these 1961 reproductions were struck from the original 1861 dies but due to the cancellation, they would have never been capable of striking coins, hence the need for the creation of transfer dies. The bronze/copper examples are the most common with a mintage in the tens of thousands while the goldine restrikes(brass alloy) have a mintage in the thousands.
Thanks again guys. Didn't even know something like this existed. So this is actually a reproduction and not a real coin or is it some kind of a commemorative? Just can see a reason for collecting these kind of coins, but that's just my opinion.
