So I've been ordering boxes for a few months now as opposed to just going in and asking if they have a box of quarters or dimes. The problem with ordering though is that most of the time I get a sealed box of 2001-2012 coins which is a huuuge dissapointment. I there anything I can dp.to avoid this? I know it may be a stupid question but maybe someone knows a few roll huntings tricks

Put an ad in Kijiji or Craigslist, that you are looking for large jars or hoards of small change. I typically offer face value plus $10 for hoards over 20 lbs, and that is how I got a pile of old Canadian 1-cent coins like this: https://goccf.com/t/118799&whichpage=3

There's no way around it. I can't tell you how many times I've exited one bank only to immediately cross the street to a different branch and dump em.

ahhh I hate when that happens, I have done that numerous times. Then I get weird looks for returning a sealed box of unopened dimes or quarters...
SPP- thanks thats a good idea, I will try it out!!

I believe the mint searches and take the nickel and silver so basically on modern ones are in circulation.

Would they really have the time and money to spend doing that? I hope not! Haha, plus the bank gets their coins from security pick up and drop off companies like g4s, I asked them what they do with the money when they pick up from my store and they said they roll up the coin and send to the banks. But perhaps their machines are designed to weed out any old coins :(

Do you have to order? I don't think so. Getting rolls directly is better than ordering sealed boxes.

you dont HAVE to order, like I said I used to just walk in and ask for a box of dimes/quarters...and most of the time id get it with no problem at all. But I feel better ordering as I have a really nice teller lady who orders for me and its less awkward doing it that way. I'm going to order 2 more boxes of dimes on monday and see what comes. If its new coin, then I have no choice but to go back and just ask for rolls instead of ordering.

SPP I like your idea about an add on Kijiji but I just have a couple questions about how you come for a dollar figure when looking at a pail of loose change.
I'm really interested in trying this but your really love to pick your brain about it first.
pst me please.

Loose rolls have better chances, in my opinion.

If ordering boxes isn't working for you stop ordering them.
