long read... prize at the end!
3 of my wife's life long friends recently booked an alaskan cruise to celebrate their 40th birthdays. my wife didn't bring it to my attention because we really couldn't afford it at the time.
at a BBQ last week one of the girls commented how she really wished my wife could've come along,
"along where?" I asked... she fills me in etc...
to make a long story short I sold off a few coins, cashed in some silver, made arrangements with her work for time off and surprised her with the trip. she is to leave friday.
she then surprises me by telling me her passport is expired...
so... we pay the rush service to get it done in 24 hours, receipt says pick it up monday (today) which is the last day the travel agent has to get her boarding pass.
arrived at the passport office this morning only to find it isn't ready... they filed her completion date as July 19th instead of the 9th... it hasnt even been started...
coins are gone, tickets are paid for. no passport = one very sad wife and one very angry coinless husband...
now, the clerk at the passport office could've made things difficult and just sent us on our way, nothing she can do right?
WRONG!
she shakes her head, walks to the back, raises all heck with her boss (there's about 200 people listening in from the waiting room) and then comes back out and tells me to come back in 3 hours...
fast forward - BINGO! passport done (in 3 hours!)
as for "payin' it forward"... I offered the clerk a tim's gift card as a thankyou for all her help. she politely declined, but told me that if I wanted that I should do something nice for someone else. so being a firm believer in karma I am paying it forward:
i am going to give away a 1907 large canadian cent (includes S&H!) to the first person who can guess my wife's birthday (just the day/date or we will be here forever - it's in march, so 1-31)
ONE guess each.
PS: its not a spectactular coin, this is more for fun and well... hopefully the coin gods are watching!
