Hi all,

I've been lurking here for a couple months but read this thread and wanted to join in. This is a great forum and I'm glad very glad I found it.

1. Congratulations dodola, those were some awesome finds. Especially the LadyBug and the 2010 Bronze set.

2. I am quite curious about the policies for discounting NCLT coins at Canada Post locations. I would like to contribute what little knowledge and experience I have as I would very much like to hear about others' experiences.

At one CP outlet they routinely discount coins 50% when new coins are released. Last year I bought 3 2010 crystal snowflakes for $52.50 each and 2 2010 crystal raindrops for $55 each. After that I went around town to all the other CPs looking for similar bargains and found none.

Yesterday I was at the same location and picked up a 2011 snowflake coin and a BU 2011 silver dollar both 50% off. So today I did a little driving to several other CP outlets and again no others had their 2011 coins on sale.

So my conclusion is that each of the Canada Post outlets is independently operated and managers makes their own decision about discounting coins and I can stop wasting my time with the outlets that never have discounted coins.

Of course if anyone disagrees and has reason to believe that discounting coins is a corporate decision and comes from a head office and seeing coins on sale at one outlet means I should continue to check all the others I would like to hear it.

welcome ferritin.

nice finding for so many 50% off silver coin.

I am aware that there is tremendous variation in the PO outlets and I am supposing it has to do with the knowledge and interest of the individuals in charge at each location.

My question is: Does the proprietor benefit from these discounted sales? I.e. if I went in and asked them to order some of the discounted items would it be worth something to them? If not then why would they take the trouble to do the extra ordering?

It could be a nice win-win though.

thanks

I do not believe the postal outlets benefit individually from selling coins. It is just another service that they offer by selling them. From what I understand each post office can decide whether they want to carry coins, as well as order the ones they want off of an order list. Example....My local post office was able to order 3 stampede dollars and she decided not to.. Well I live an hour from Calgary so there was lots of interest in them. She contacted post offices in other provinces and had a few sent to her since it was to late for her to order.

Northern.... I would guess that there are some post offices that will try and get you items and some that will not try to get you stuff. I am guessing that it is based on how busy they are and if they want to put the effort into doing it. I live in a small town and the lady here tries to get me what I ask for. When I saw the 50% off the 2011 items I asked for her to look around. She was able to get some from a few places. Some outlets refuse to ship items out even though they are in stock at their outlet. I think they should try to find what you are looking for no matter what the price. It is called good customer service. :)))

why you buy so many?

Most of these sets include 7 coins and the face value of the set is $3.91. Compared with the discount price $4.99, there is only $1 mark up than the coin face value. Besides, these 7 coins are brilliant new and well packed as gifts. Furthermore, there are one 50 cent and one colored quarter in the set.
