I and my friends plan a trip to Ottawa on the coming long weekend. Of course can't miss the visit to Mint Boutique. Has anyone in this forum been there before? Does it have a lot of coins (both new and previous years for sale?) Anychace of finding Glass LB or Glass bumble bee, or Dino...? The main motivation of this trip is for coin shopping. So if there are not many selections at the boutique, we might plan our trip to somewhere else. Thanks for reply.

I've been there a few times. They do have a good number of coins there. Also a Gold Bar of 400 oz you can hold if I am not mistaken about the weight :/ But you will surely not find any Glass LB or Bumble Bee unfortunately. All the coins that go fast or are sold out are not there anymore. And also, you will find only coins from 2011 and 2012. Youy might see one from 2010, but I really doubt so

Not a chance for any coins that exceed retail value. I have been there many times. ALL SOLD OUT

On my last trip to Ottawa, my wife and I paid a visit to the Bank of Canada Currency museum. It was definately a worth while visit. A lot of excellent examples of Canadian and provincial coins, including the 1911 Silver Dollar.

Yes, coins are for sale there. But only current issues that are not already sold out. If it is unavailable on their website, you will not find it in the boutique. If you are planning on coin shopping, you will be disappointed. You will have better luck at a coin show in the fall (e.g., Coin Expo or Nuphilex).

Where are you travelling from? Alliance Coins in Almonte is an excellent coin shop, not far from Ottawa. Universal Coins will have some of the items you are looking for (glass bee), but at current market prices.
The Currency Museum is worth the trip...

At the mint, you can also get a tour of the processing area. You'll be behind glass, but you get a good perspective on the production side of the NCLT coins, and a look at a LOT Of gold and silver.....sorry no free samples, but I thought is was worth the time of the tour, and price paid (free for MC members)You have to 'book' your tour in advance with your mint rep.
