Lots of money for something that could be anything. D or an S, keep in mind these were counterfeited like the 32 Washington quarters, with a little soldering and a mold, anyone can add a mintmark to anything.

Yep - the 16-D is one of those that has been faked very often. I sometimes wonder if there are as many fakes as actual mintage.
