For christmas I finally got a DETECTOR Garrett ACE250!!! It was great and sooo exciting but of course now I am just waiting for the weather to warm up. I am from NY , Long island to be exact. I have been searching online for some historical facts of Long Island to find out where to dig. Does anyone have any information ? I would really like to find some of those amazing coins everyone seems to dig up . Where should I look ?

Hey,
I had the same problem living on LI also. I got an Ace 250 and I went to a couple of schools, butthen I could find any more places to search. There just isn't many places to search out here which stinks.

You would think with all the beaches and coastline ...it would be a great area. Hopefully some other member here on the forum might enlighten us with some key historical information.

Hi doclongo

I have never reseached long Island so historically or topographically I'm afraid that I cant help with specifics ,, but in general the places where people gather in numbers can usually be depended on for finds, and if that place has been the gathering point for a long time then the finds can go from very modern to the classics.

fair grounds , parks ,school lots, camp grounds, pic nic areas, and places like them specific to your local area are the places to look.you can use old news papers, photo's or just get to know some of the older people in your town ,, ask about carnivals ,circus, parades, town gatherings, and the like ,, its cool to talk to the older folks about what the town looked like and the events which took place when they were kids !!

keep in mind that many places will have trash targets over the top ,, these areas need to be detected several times and the trash removed .

Patience is a key ingrediant to success !! dont give up on areas that you know have good targets to be found .

Old front yards, especially in the city. Virtual treasure troves. Always obtain permission first. I do it all the time.

I used to live on Long Island. I believe that the best place would be the Jamaica Bay area in Nassau County. It was acctually the First Dutch colony in America.
