Ya know.. worn out poor condition notes have an appeal to me. It shows that they were circulated and used for what they were originally intended for. They seem to have more of a history, vs a crisp unc bill that was snatched from circulation before it even had a chance.
Although I do understand how good condition must play in to establish premiums. You can't restore a note, but you can wear it artificially. You also need a guideline established.
This is a catch 22 for me, because I enjoy the worn look of a good used note, even the feel of it. Yet my collecting is in part a long term investment. Therefor I don't want to INVEST in poor grade notes/coins. Although if I come across something I like in a poor grade, I am not particularly upset.
Just airing out my opinions.

yep exactly what I am talking about, especially the second one. It really looks aged and used. I'm glad I am not the only one with this train of thought. :)

If you like worn here is the very first star note I ever saved, and yes I found it in circulation many, many moons ago. It was before I even knew what a star note was so I thought it was strange because of that. And for those of you that know something about this series, no it is without motto. For those of you that don't know what that means... Google is your friend

Collect what you enjoy. If you are collecting from circulation, it is just costing you face value and you can always spend them at another time. A few denominations won't cost much or tie up much money. And with saving account interest rates so low, you really aren't losing much.

I agree with Wquinn! Collect what you love. And if it's only costing you a small premium over face for low grade stuff you love there is no reason not too....

I collect low grade obsolete notes from Baltimore. I never intend to sell them, so it is an inexpensive way to add to my Historic Baltimore Collection. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

I think there is a difference between worn and mutilated (referring to your top note) Ceylon lol.
