I recently created a new educational website. It addresses the question:
"Can you think of an emperor and a mint city which used five different mintmarks during his reign?"

Interesting and well put together. I learned something today. Like I used to tell my boys, "a day is not wasted as long as you learn something new". I have a few Byzantine coins, but they are not my main focus. I particularly like the Philip I Tet at the bottom of the page.

Regards,

I had to cheat for the answer, and I collect Byzantine coins.

I learned a lot from this post and will be on the lookout for examples of the ones I lack. I'm a bit surprised that we have not had others posting Antioch coins to the point of the 5 marks. I don't have the whole set but some may enjoy other examples (weak in different places) of the common ones.

Most of my Byzantine coins are from Constantinople and Thessalonica. I don't have any from Antioch.

I added a coin to my educational page
http://esty.ancients.info/interesti...ntmarks.html br /
about 1 emperor, 1 city, and 5 mintmarks.
The addition is a remarkable large imitation with the rare mintmark ANTIX, about 80% of the way down the page

I added an example of Sear 214, emperor enthroned facing/M over +THEUP, to my page. Antioch is the only mint to use that type. Doug posted a nice one one above.

If you don't know the story of the calamities at Antioch under Justinian, you will find the page interesting.

Another nice page, augustus1! Thanks :)

Note to self: do NOT move to Antioch, that place has the worst luck!

Excellent information. Really interesting to see Antioch spelled out in full. First time I've seen that.
