Has anyone used Dansco shims in an album? Questions: How well do they work? How much smaller than the hole can a coin be and the shims still work? How are they packaged? I've seen them listed at $ .85, is that each, or for a package of how many?

Thanks to someone if you can answer!

Sounds like just the thing to keep my large cents upright in the album. I saw on another forum where someone mentioned that if you contact Dansco, they will send you some. Not sure how this works as there doesn't seem to be any way to contact them.

Haven't found a picture of them anywhere, that's why I started this thread, hoping some one on here has used them and can tell us about them.

I've never heard of them. I cut my own from archival quality paper.

Tradewinds website had them listed for $.85, but their site does not seem to be functioning. Several other members in the past said they were available, but no one seems to have ever ordered them.

So after looking around for a bit I've pretty much come up with nothing for what these are. I found one website that did appear to sell them at one time but the page is complete removed it just brought up a google hit and then I found this on another site

Quote:
"..Yes, use shims!....You can take some of the very plastic slides that hold the coins in place & cut them into very thin strips. then cut the strips shorter so that you can bend them into a circle so they will fit into the coin hole. the strip should set just inside the border of the inside of the hole. then slide the coin into the hole. If the hole is still too big, then insert another shim until you get a good fit. You can insert shorter shims if you want to take up only a little extra space."

Other than that cant find much

Saw that, and the question I'm asking isn't "are shims useful", or "how do I make my own shims" or "will shims help" but "has anyone bought and used the official, made by Dansco for Dansco albums shims, and if so, can they describe how they are packaged (each, bundle of ten, etc.), what are they made of and how well do they work?"

Never heard of them before this thread was started. Every other time I've heard them mentioned on this site they have been homemade.

jgfindring - Your best bet may be to ask Dansco directly to answer if they exist, how they are packaged and what they are made of.

Their email is: danscocorp@aol.com.
Phone: 323-734-66373

I do not think Dansco offers an official shim. I do know that they will sell you extra sides and you can easily make shims with them.
