I recent purchased this at auction listed as "AU" but I believe we can agree from the start this is not AU. However, I would be interested in your judgment. For your consideration...

Looks AU50 to me. The surfaces do not look original - that is more of an issue to many than a 45, 50, or 53.

I'd say XF 45.

EF-45 though the surfaces look just a tad bright.

I tend to agree with the overall opinion of XF. I included the CU's photos for a reason. They show general overall wear on the high points (hairline, right breast, left shoulder and on reverse, eagles talons, leaves, and arrow feathers), enough to drop a grade. A disappointment on my part. Still, a very nice coin and well worth the $80.00 paid at auction. Here is a MS version of the same coin.

Your coin is a good example of the motto series. I picked up one similar a few years back off the bay and it is now in my 7070.

Very close to AU but no cigar. I agree with those that said EF-45. At $80 you have a solid coin, nice buy.

ciemabon, I would say AU 53 cleaned on my coin, but it was a steal at $59.

Cinemabon, I would also grade your 1875 as an EF45. The wear on Liberty's thigh is just a bit more than AU but better than EF40 IMO.

Nice details! It would look good in anyone's 7070!!

Do you think it would get a details grade or is the light cleaning on this one market acceptable?

Joe2007, the color of the photo masks the cleaning but I like the detail it shows. I'm pretty sure it would be given a details grade.

Amazing what a little photoshop will do. Now they're as good as gold, uh, silver that is.
